McCaw, is a provider of simple, fast, portable and reliable
wireless high-speed Internet service. Clearwire customers connect
to the Internet using licensed spectrum, thus eliminating the
confines of traditional cable or phone lines.
Headquartered in Kirkland, Wash., the company launched its first
market in August 2004 and now offers service in 16 states across
the U.S. as well as in Europe.
On May 7, 2008, Clearwire Corporation and Sprint Nextel Corporation
entered into a definitive agreement to combine their
next-generation wireless broadband businesses to form a new
wireless communications company to expedite the deployment of the
first nationwide mobile WiMAX network.
In conjunction with this agreement Intel Corporation (through Intel
Capital); Google Inc.; Comcast Corporation; Time Warner Cable Inc;
and Bright House Networks have collectively agreed to invest $3.2
billion into the new company.
RF Engineer
Clearwire is seeking experienced RF engineers. Working as part of
the Clearwire RF Engineering team, these candidates will be
responsible for multiple aspects of RF engineering in their regions
including site selection support, RF field tuning/optimization,
interference measurement/tracking, wireless backhaul and general RF
field troubleshooting. Working as part of the Clearwire RF
Engineering team, these candidates will be responsible for multiple
aspects of RF engineering in their respective region.
New Markets Development:
- Utilize propagation modeling techniques to complete RF
designs of large-scale, complex markets
- Ability to perform all stages of RF design, including: search
ring process, optimal site selection, link budget analysis, RF
sweep evaluation, interference mitigation, and spectrum
management
- Work effectively with multiple teams, including: outsourced
vendor partners, market project managers, network development
partners, sales and marketing, commissioning and field teams, in
order to build an optimal next generation network
- Develop, train, and collaborate with local market field techs
to ensure that RF drive testing is done correctly
- Analyze test results and work closely with RF planner to
optimize network and prop model
Ongoing Market Support and Optimization:
- Optimize end to end performance of Wimax broadband network,
including the RF and IP layers, backhaul issues, capacity
management, spectrum management, interference mitigation,
troubleshooting packet loss, throughput and latency issues
- Utilize complex test equipment and post processing tools for
network optimization
- Work with NOC/Tier 3 and equipment suppliers to resolve
product defects
- Assist in the troubleshooting of RF coverage issues in the
market, including RF audits of PreQual predictions, known
coverage-holes, etc
- Assist in evaluating fill-in sites for increased market
expansion and capacity
Requirements:
- Min 5-7+ years of RF network design experience
preferred.
- Bachelors of Electrical Engineering, Masters or higher
degrees an asset
- Prior RF, microwave, and IP experience with a wireless
service provider a strong asset
- Working knowledge of RF planning process and use of
propagation tools (familiarity with Planet, SignalPro EDX or
Wizard is a strong asset)
- Experience with PTP microwave backhaul radios (5.8, 18, 23
GHz, etc) is an asset
- Vendor management experience preferred
- Expected to have a solid understanding and hands-on
experience with RF instrumentation and tools
- Expected to possess strong RF systems engineering knowledge
and analytical skills
- Experience in working at cellsites: installation,
verification and RF optimization
- Working knowledge and experience in IP networking a strong
asset
- Excellent communications, interpersonal, and problem-solving
skills
- Flexible person with the ability to manage stressful
situations and adapt to changing environments, with minimal
supervision
- Willing to travel within region of responsibility (est 40%
travel)
- Familiarity with Microsoft office products
- Strong work ethic and team player
- Candidates should be capable of Climb ladders/stairs whilst
carrying test equipment
- Valid, clean, drivers license required
